1950s Makeup Evaluation

 1950s Makeup Evaluation:

Makeup Design:

This is for a documentary about forgotten killers. This is a recreation of Judy Dull who was Harvey Glatman's first victim, she is after she was strangled to death using using rope. There is bruising and some abrasions caused by friction.

Makeup:

Evaluation:
This makeup works for film & TV as the makeup works under natural lighting and intense lighting and the skin was even. Alcohol paints were used for the wound on the neck which means they will last longer as they won't be affected by water as much as aqua paints would be, however, this makeup wouldn't work for stage or an event as the makeup isn't intense enough which means the details would be lost due to the distance, however, I could make this work for theatre by making the makeup more intense to allow it to be seen from a distance. For continuity purposes, pictures would be used to make sure the bruising and cuts are in the same places.

This makeup fits the time period as the lips are a bold red and the eye makeup creates a cat eye effect by using eyeliner to create a wing and lashes that are longer on the outer corner. The eyebrows are arched and the hairstyle is accurate for this time period as women with longer hair often wore their hair in a 'horsetail' which is a mid-ponytail. This victim was strangled to death using rope which means that there was bruising and broken blood vessels due to the pressure and some abrasions due to friction, this means that the neck injury is accurate.

However to improve, I could tame my baby hairs to make the hair appear neater, I could also wear a blonde wig as this victim had shorter, blonde hair. The lips were also slightly uneven so I could line them to make them more even, the eyeliner was also slightly uneven. I could also improve the neck injury by adding some deeper purples to add more depth and I could disperse the edges to create a softer edge. I could possibly use silicone to create some cuts rather than using paint.

Peer Assessment: Drew
Drew said that my makeup was flawless and that it fits the time period really well, she also said she liked the bold red lip. She said that the neck injury looked amazing and realistic and that it would work really well for film & TV.

However, she said that I could improve by blending the edges of the bruising more to prevent a harsh line and that I could wear a blonde wig to fit with the victim more.
