In terms of makeup, the foundation was very thick and often consisted of multiple layers that were often 2 shades lighter than the natural skin tone to create a pale base for the vibrant colours of the rest of the makeup. The base was powdered with a translucent powder to create a matte base and blush was used to contour the cheekbones, it was blended below the cheekbones and across the whole cheek then blended up around the outside of the eye. The blush was bold and very obvious, and women often used oranges, bright pinks, and red blush (Skin City, 2015).

Lipstick was also a statement in makeup, corals, red, and fuchsia being the most popular colours and the glossier the finish the better, the lipstick didn’t have to match the of the look but this added to the uniqueness (Skin City, 2015).
