2000s Research:

The trends of the 2000s changed through the years and the makeup throughout this decade evolved throughout the decade more than any of the previous decades.

Although some of the fashion trends of the 2000s were very questionable, the makeup fit with the fashion. One of the most popular trends was the straight base with white shimmery lids (L’Oréal Paris,2019), this look was worn by most people and was even worn by celebrities on the red carpet, Britney Spears is a perfect example of celebrities wearing this look in the early 2000s, Christina Aguilera also often opted for this look.

Pastel eyeshadow is another popular trend of the 2000s, this was often paired with glossy or frosted lips and multiple layers of mascara. This look was very popular and was worn by many celebrities throughout the decade including Britney Spears, Ashley Tisdale, and Cameron Diaz, with purple being the most popular shade (L’Oréal Paris, 2019). Blue eyeshadow was also very popular during the 2000s, this decade was all about colour (L’Oréal Paris, 2019) and the eyeshadow was blended from the lid up towards the eyebrows.

Christina Aguilera was often seen wearing a smokey eye with frosty lips and crimped hair, this was another extremely popular look in the 2000s.

There were 4 main trends for lips throughout the 2000s, the first being glossy lips. Everyone including teenagers and celebrities wore lip gloss, one of the most common lip glosses were Lancôme Juicy Tubes and they were a sheer pink and often had glitter in them, another popular gloss was the pink Chanel lip gloss (Buzz Feed, 2017).

Another lip trend throughout the 2000s was harsh lip liner with a lighter lipstick (L’Oréal Paris, 2019), this was mostly used with nude lipsticks and a darker nude lip liner. This was often seen on people such as Beyoncé and Halle Berry.

Another popular lip trend was frosted lips (L’Oréal Paris, 2019) which is lip gloss with a shimmer/iridescent finish. Celebrities such as Christina Aguilera were often seen with this lip look.

Glowing, dewy skin was very popular in the 2000s (L’Oréal Paris, 2019) along with lots of bronzer and fake tan. Johnson’s Holiday Skin was extremely popular to create a bronzed look and the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse was the most popular foundation (Buzz Feed, 2017). Jennifer Lopez was often seen with dewy skin and was a huge influence on makeup.

The emo subculture was extremely popular during this decade with Avril Lavigne being the face of emos in the 2000s, she was extremely popular due to her music which means that her looks had a huge influence on the makeup, hair, and fashion within this subculture. From looking at photographs we can determine that the emo look consisted of straight hair, a matte base without any heavy bronzer, neutral lips, and dark smudged eyeliner around the entire eyes, this was then paired with a few layers of mascara.
