Why is it important to learn to make your wax seamless?
Why is it important to learn to make
your wax seamless?
Uses of wax:
Wax can be
used for wax modelling, Clemente Susini and Anna Morandi Manzolini were famous
anatomical artists in the 1700s and they created wax sculptures which were used
for educational purposes.
Wax can also
be used for different types of cuts in films and TV shows, casualty simulations
and events such as the spooky walks for Halloween.
Wax can also
be used to change face shapes or the shape of facial features such as the nose.
Seamless
wax before painting:
It’s
important that wax is seamless before painting as the paint could cling to any
visible edges which will make them more visible, also once there’s too much
product on top of the wax it may need to be taken off and restarted as adjustments
can’t be made to the wax.
These
problems could ruin the illusion you are trying to create which could then ruin
the character or the scenario.
When
does wax need to be seamless:
Wax will
need to be seamless for films and TV shows as edges may show up in the lights
and create shadows which will ruin the effect and high quality cameras will
also pick up on any edges so they will be visible to the audience which means
it won’t look as realistic, this means the audience wont be able to engage with
the storyline as much due to the makeup not being realistic.
Wax will also
need to be seamless for casualty simulations especially when training unqualified
doctors/nurses as it will need to be as realistic as possible and if the wax
isn’t seamless then this will ruin the effect and it won’t be as realistic as
it could be.
Seamless wax
is not as important for events such as the spooky walk for Halloween as the
edges may not be seen as they could be lost in the distance and the special
effects could still look realistic.
Seamless wax
is an important technique for a special effects makeup artist to have as it
will be used a lot and it is a demonstration of your makeup skills.
